Isis aims to bring awareness to the Dallas-Fort. Worth Metroplex by galvanizing children and their parents, and the community overall with the city’s first ever march against childhood obesity. According to The Center for Disease Control childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents in the past 30 years. Childhood obesity has both immediate and long-term effects on health and well-being.  Obese youth are more likely to have risk factors for cardiovascular disease, such as high cholesterol or high blood pressure. In a population-based sample of 5- to 17-year-olds, 70% of obese youth had at least one risk factor for cardiovascular disease.

The parade and march will be a part of the Harambee Festival which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. Harambee is an alternative to Halloween. This is also a celebration of children, their creativity, their brilliance, love, and unity inclusive of marching bands, entertainment, and participation of area schools. The parade and march will be held Oct. 25th 2014 line starts @ 7:30 am at 2950 Gould St. & MLK Blvd Center, and will end at 3101 MLK Blvd at The Dallas Weekly, DFW’s #1 urban news source, serving the community for over 55 years.
