Wednesday,  Americans paused to celebrate and commemorate the selfless sacrifices of the men and women who have served in our Armed Forces. It is because of your unwavering commitment and profound sacrifice, that our country remains – to this day, the standard bearer for freedom and democracy.

“Texas is home to more than 1.6 million veterans with nearly a quarter of them residing in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) area. As a former Chief Psychiatric Nurse at the Dallas Veteran’s Affairs (VA) Medical Center for 18 years, I provided bedside care to veterans of all generations. As a proud daughter, grand-daughter, niece, wife, and sister of veterans, I remain a committed lifelong supporter of the men and women who have served.

“Our veterans face many challenges after their enlistment commitments. That is why it is a privilege to fight for accessible, quality healthcare as well as safe and affordable housing along with reducing the number of veteran suicide deaths.

“Although our commemoration celebrations will look different this year due to the pandemic, our gratitude persists.

“As we remember our veterans, let us be mindful that the acknowledgement of and appreciation for them should not be limited to a single day of the year but every day.”
