A Little Bit of Faith: : Do You Want to Be Wise?

“Whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock” (Matthew 7:24). Do you want to be wise? Many of us do. However, often we lack wisdom because we do not want to listen to what God is telling us to do. It is easy to sit and listen to the word of God from a preacher, the television, or the radio. But when God speaks directly to us about something, we often ignore what He has told us.

In order to have a sound foundation in life, we must build our lives around what God says for us to do. Hearing God’s word is the beginning of wisdom. God’s word is necessary in our lives. But if we simply hear the Word and do not act upon the Word, then we lack understanding. God wants us to have wisdom and for our lives to be built on the Rock.

Yet, many of us have built our lives on a weak foundation. The Bible says in Matthew, “…the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand” (Matthew 7: 25-26).

Which person are you in the example that Jesus provides in the book of Matthew? Take a little time to reflect upon your life. You will begin to see a pattern emerge. You may have had a weak foundation in the past, but it does not have to remain that way. If you choose to start listening and applying God’s word to your life, your foundation will become stronger.

A wise person will listen to God, but a fool will continue to do what he or she has always done. Which person are you? I know I want to be the wise person.

Amen? Amen.
