Parkland makes changes to financial assistance program

Parkland has changed the eligibility requirements for the Parkland Financial Assistant (PFA) program to improve access to care. PFA is not health insurance, but it may help patients pay for health services if they cannot afford them.

The biggest changes are the eligibility requirement, which moved from 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Income Level (FPIL) to 250 percent of the FPIL with sliding scale payment requirements. This will allow more Dallas County residents to benefit from the program.

All applicants to PFA will continue to undergo a financial screening to determine if there are any programs they qualify for that will help pay for their care. Patients also must provide documents that show their eligibility and apply for all other programs they may be eligible for. In addition, participants must agree to make good faith payments at the time of service based on their ability to pay.

The PFA program is only open to Dallas County residents. For more information, visit www.ParklandHospital.com/PFA.
