Where to Get Free Flu Shots in Dallas County

Facebooklinkedin

Dallas County has a number of clinics where adults and children can receive a free flu vaccine. It’s a good thing because 2013 has started off with a terrible flu epidemic. Even TV’s Dr. Oz said that mid-January was only the halfway point of the flu season. So there’s plenty of time to get a flu shot — and hopefully it will be effective and keep you from coming down with it.

Persons that are either on Medicaid, that are unemployed or without health insurance can get free flu shots through Dallas County Health and Human Services.

Adults
Adults in Dallas County can get a free flu shot at the adult immunization clinic on the first floor at the Dallas County Health and Human Services Building, 2377 North Stemmons Freeway in Dallas. Clinic hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Appointments are not necessary. For more information call 214-819-2162. Adults outside of Dallas County can also get a free flu shot. Get one today.

Children
Free flu vaccine is available at any of the Dallas Immunization Clinics — as long as supplies last. If you’re interested in obtaining a shot for your children, be sure to call ahead and see if they are in stock. Clinics are located in Oak Cliff, Lancaster, Grand Prairie, Carrollton, Seagoville, etc. If the child is under an insurance policy, it’s recommended to visit your health care provider.

The current flu vaccine is an all-in-one inoculation that offers protection against multiple flu strains including the H1N1 virus.

As of mid-January, the flu season is only half over. There’s still time to get a flu shot and more shots are becoming available. The number of flu cases has exceeded anyone’s expectations so it’s a good idea to go ahead and get the vaccine.

What About Children With Special Needs?
Discuss with your own health care provider because each case is different, but my daughter has special needs and her neurologist said to get the shot — not the mist. His main comment was, “It’s tried and true.” That’s just good advice.

Laughter is the Best Medicine
OK, just for grins, Mariano’s Restaurants in DFW has come up with a special drink for you to (jokingly) help combat the winter flu. Read more about the Mexican Flu Shot. Hint: It’s an adult beverage. Enjoy and stay healthy!
