THE WHITE HOUSE MY BROTHER’S KEEPER INITIATIVE REACHES DALLAS PASTOR DR. FREDERICK D. HAYNES, III TO LAUNCH INTERN AND LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
|Thr!ve Intern and Leadership Program is hosting a press conference at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, June 26 to announce that over 30 employers in the Dallas area have hired nearly 100 African-American boys for a 6-week intern and professional development program. The presser will also feature nationally known leaders who will speak to the Thr!ve participants during a two day Leadership and Development Institute. The institute runs 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. June 25th and 26th.
Dr. Frederick D. Haynes, III recently stood with several organizations earlier this year when President Obama announced the $200 million, five-year initiative to create job opportunities for high school African-American and Latino boys. According to a recent report from NPR, “Is The Deck Stacked Against Black Boys In America,” President Obama challenged hundreds of organizations to invest in our youth by working in the community to create job and internship opportunities and later recognized the work done by Dr. Haynes with the Thr!ve Program during a press conference in April.
Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, Robbie Tolan, Tim Brown, Bethel Johnson, Community Leaders, Sponsors and Partners will join Dr. Haynes for the press conference on Thursday, June 26 at 12:30pm. Media outlets will have an opportunity to hear how in 90 days, the Thr!ve program has collaborated with a community of business owners, corporations and volunteers to invest in the future of African American male youth.
“We believe employment, mentorship and professional development are giant steps to cure a multitude of ills,” said Pastor Haynes. “We are teaching young men to lead, to follow – and most importantly how to work and be mentored.”
