State Senator Royce West Weekly Update
|Everything worthwhile seems to be accompanied by a mixture of patience and longsuffering. We saw that patience vividly displayed this past week as she was questioned by members of the Senate, some of which seemed to merely be pandering to their base ahead of the Midterms. The two Texas senators had already voted against Judge Brown when she was confirmed to a lower court last year. There is no indication that they will have a change of heart even if they continue to say that they have not come to a decision. Still, even if they vote against her and the votes are entirely split, the vice-president, Kamala Harris, is expected to cast the deciding vote in favor.
I can’t but be overjoyed knowing that Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson seems to be on track to be the first female black woman to sit on the supreme court. We have been through many difficulties these past few years, but it is helpful to have moments like this where we see a different and better path forward.
Sincerely,
Royce West
