SMU CELEBRATES Dr. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. LEGACY WITH DREAM WEEK EVENTS JAN. 18-24
|Dream Week at SMU celebrates the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a collection of events including participation in the annual Dallas community parade and march, a movie screening, a day of service, remembrance of the historic 1966 speech that King gave at SMU and a commemorative campus community walk. To kick-off SMU’s Dream Week celebration, members of the SMU community will participate in the Dallas Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade at 10 a.m. on Jan. 18. The SMU band, athletic teams, students and administration will be in attendance. Featured public events for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dream Week 2014 include: City of Dallas Parade and March

Members of the Dallas community will participate in a parade and march celebrating the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. The parade will feature the SMU marching band and various members of the SMU community. The parade starts at Dallas City Hall and ends at the Fair Park entrance.
Day of Service- 7:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 20
SMU students will have opportunities to volunteer at the following organizations: Brother Bill’s Helping Hand, Dallas Ramp Project, Nexus Recovery Center, Goodwill Industries of Dallas, C.C. Young Retirement Center, Autism Treatment Center of Dallas and Vickery Meadow Learning Center.

Hughes Trigg Commons Exhibit featuring noted leaders of the civil rights movement. Free and open to the public.
Film Screening: Standing On My Sister’s Shoulders 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22 Hughes Trigg Student Center Forum The award-winning documentary Standing On My Sister’s Shoulders examines the Civil Rights movement in Mississippi during the 1950’s and 1960’s from the point of view of the women who lived it. Free and open to the public.
Commemorative Unity Walk: featuring remarks from SMU President R. Gerald Turner Noon, Thursday, Jan. 23
