Seven Last Words of Christ: Spiritual Journey – Good Friday April 2, 2021, 12:00 PM CDT
|The South Dallas Concert Choir cordially invites you to come along on this Spiritual Journey of the Seven Last Words of Jesus Christ. The Seven Last Words of Christ refers to the seven short phrases uttered by Jesus on the cross, as gathered from the four Christian Gospels. The Crucifixion of Jesus has served as an inspiration to a great many visual artists and composers over the centuries. At least 16 composers have written musical settings of the Seven Last Words, for various combinations of voice and instruments.
Annually, the South Dallas Concert Choir has performed the Seven Last Words of Christ by the French composer, Theodore Dubois’ at New Hope Baptist Church in Dallas, with their Mass Choir. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s concert is quite different from the classical version we’ve performed in the past. First, this concert will be virtual. You will be able to view this concert from the comfort of your own home. This year’s musical selections expressing Jesus’ seven last words will be Negro Spirituals and interpretation of the words will be presented in short sermonettes by seven prominent ministers from the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex.
