Herman Chase Rimes was born to Walter and Bernadine Rimes on June 13, 1934 in Marshall, Texas. He was educated in Marshall Public Schools and graduated from H. B. Pemberton High School. He then graduated from Texas College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and Prairie View A&M University with a Master’s degree. Herman accepted Christ at an early age. He was an Army veteran and a very proud man. He had a long career as an instructor at J. H. Long and a coach at D. W. Carter High School, where he was known as one of the best offensive coaches in Carter history; as quoted by Coach Freddy James. Herman had a great passion for traveling, cookouts with family, fishing, westerns, and listening to the blues.

Herman is preceded in death by his loving parents, Walter and Bernadine Rimes; brothers, Walter Rimes, Van Don Rimes, and Joe Rimes; niece, Cathy Taylor Brown.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Pat) Rimes; son, Juan Rimes; three daughters, Vernidene Rimes Ward, Monique (Bobby) Byrd and Detra Byrd; grandchildren, Nivea (Brandon) White, Calvin Rimes, Christopher Rimes, Carlos Rimes, Crystal Rimes, Jaquise Byrd, J’Kavion Lewis, Bray’la Curry, Yazmine Curry, Forrest Curry and Bobby Sterling, Jr.; his great grandchildren, Ashlynn Rimes, Carlon Rimes, Caydence Rimes, Cherish Rimes, Cailsey Rimes, Levi Rimes, Gavin  White, Kameron Thomas, Aijah Johnson, Taylor Johnson, Jurnee Hollie, and Kasen Scott; nephew, Kenneth Wayne Rimes; nieces, Cathy  Taylor  Brown and Stacie (Robert) Rimes Boyd; great nephew, Rory Taylor; great nieces, Tasha Taylor, Shaniqua Wilson and Judith Boyd; sisters, Kay Rimes and  Virginia Rimes; special friends, Ms. Cardella Dorsey and Tiffany Rimes; sister-in-law, Claudia S. Rimes; a host of cousins and friends.
