STATEMENT:
Kardal Coleman, Dallas County Democratic Party Chair, issued the following statement:
“As a veteran myself, I know that the VA is a lifeline for our community. Many of us return home with physical wounds and sometimes invisible scars. The threat to cut funding to the VA is a direct assault on critical services, and calls into question who we are as a nation. If we aren’t willing to fight for adequate care and treatment of our veterans and their families, what is it that we stand for?
“It’s a sad day in America when the commander in Chief launches an attack on the healthcare for our troops. This is the same man who kept wounded soldiers out of military parades, and called our fallen soldiers ‘suckers’ and ‘losers’ instead of acknowledging what they truly are: heroes. Instead of cutting services, he should be expanding benefits for our veterans.
“I am calling on Lieutenant Colonel Allen West, Dallas County Republican Party Chair, to stand in solidarity as a fellow Army veteran and demand that we prioritize the needs of our brothers and sisters in arms. Veterans have made sacrifices for our freedom and for our country; they deserve a nation that honors their sacrifice by ensuring that their country cares for them in return, providing the care, support, and resources they’ve so clearly earned.”
