|Former Dallas City Council member Dwaine Caraway released from federal prison
DALLAS — Dwaine Caraway, the former Dallas City Council member who pleaded guilty to accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes and spent years in federal prison, is now a free man.
Caraway was released on Feb. 7, according to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons. He had been doing his time at the Big Spring Federal Correction Institution, about 300 miles west of Dallas near Midland.
Caraway pleaded guilty to accepting hundreds of thousands in bribes, had his prison sentence reduced in exchange for testimony against developer Ruel Hamilton.
Amber Guyger’s murder conviction, sentence upheld by judge
DALLAS – The state’s highest criminal court rejected Amber Guyger’s latest attempt to have her murder conviction thrown out.
Guyger’s attorneys argued that a defense strategy called ‘mistake of fact’ is relevant to the former Dallas police officer’s case.
