Charges of Misdemeanor Deadly Conduct Dismissed Against Three Dallas Police Officers
(Dallas, Texas) – On Monday, March 18, the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office dismissed charges of misdemeanor deadly conduct against Dallas Police Sgt. Kevin Mansell and Officers Danny Vasquez and Dustin Dillard in the death of 32-year-old Anthony Timpa.
On December 6, 2017, the case was presented to the Grand Jury. Presentation of the case lasted two days, and included testimony of three medical examiners, including Dr. Nizam Peerwani, a medical examiner hired by the family. The Grand Jury had concluded the officers engaged in reckless conduct that placed Mr. Timpa in imminent danger of serious bodily injury.
Today’s decision to dismiss the charges was made following a lengthy investigation and determination as to the official cause of death of Mr. Timpa on August 10, 2016.
Dallas County Criminal District Attorney John Creuzot met with all three medical examiners regarding their findings. They stated they do not believe the officers acted recklessly. Additionally, they cannot, and will not, testify to the elements of the indictment beyond a reasonable doubt.
Mr. Creuzot met with family members and their attorney last Thursday to inform them of the decision.

Amber Guyger’s trail set for August 12 in the killing of Botham Jean
DALLAS (AP) — A date has been set for the murder trial of a white former Dallas police officer who fatally shot an unarmed black man in his own apartment.
Court records show that Amber Guyger is scheduled to begin a jury trial on Monday, Aug. 12, less than a year after she shot Botham Jean, whose apartment she says she mistook for her own.
Guyger was arrested on a manslaughter charge three days after the Sept. 6 shooting of her neighbor, a 26-year-old native of the Caribbean island of St. Lucia who worked in Dallas for an accounting and consulting firm.
The case drew national attention and the initial charge was criticized as being lenient. Guyger was fired from the Dallas Police Department later in September. A grand jury indicted her for murder in November.
