LASSITER EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL HOSTS MICHIGAN COMMUNITY COLLEGE LEADERS – Leadership from Grand Rapids Community College in Michigan visited Dr. Wright L. Lassiter Jr. Early College High School at El Centro College this week to learn what makes the Blue Ribbon School successful. “We want to grow in Grand Rapids, which means we have to go where people are doing it well and learn what we can,” said David Selmon, associate dean of academic outreach at Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC). “That’s why we are here today.” GRCC Dean of Academic Outreach Dan Clark said he was particularly interested in the strong partnership Dallas ISD has with the Dallas County Community College District. He said such a partnership is vital to the success of an early college high school program.

On April 14, 2016, the Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), Mel Watt, announced a new loan modification program that will help borrowers stay in their homes. The NAACP has long supported and advocated for this program, as it is an important step in the fight to keep homeowners and families in their homes. Homeowners, communities and taxpayers will all benefit from the new program.

 

 
DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE SELECTS DALLAS COUNTY PUBLIC DEFENDER’S OFFICE TO RECEIVE FUNDING FOR COMMUNITY COURT
The U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance, in partnership with the Center for Court Innovation, today announced that the Dallas County Public Defender’s Office is one of 10 applicants nationwide to receive a 2016 Community Court Grant Program award. The Dallas City Attorney’s Office is working in partnership with the Public Defender’s Office to establish the first county/municipal partnership for a community court. The South Dallas Second Chance Community Improvement Program Court will receive a $200,000 grant to fund a two-year program, as well as technical assistance from the Center for Court Innovation to implement a community court for young adults in South Dallas.
