Local Retired Recipient Hall of Famer Racheal McGee
|The Mangum Education Foundation in Mangum Oklahoma recognized and presented their yearly awards during their Hall of fame and awards banquet.
Rachel Lee Williams McGee on Saturday evening, November the 14th, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. was one of 10 Hall of fame inductees.
Rachel Lee McGee was born in Reese, Texas and reared in Mangum, Oklahoma by Maggie Ross Bruner & Robert Ross Sr. Her parents are both deceased. Her sister is Shelley Ross who graduated from Mangum High School, class of “70. Shelley now lives in Victoria, Texas. Her brother is the late Robert Ross, Jr. who served in the United States Navy.
Rachel Graduated, Valedictorian, From Booker T. Washington High School. Her Bachelor of Science & Masters of Education Degrees were earned at Langston University, Langston, Oklahoma and North Texas State University (now UNT) IN Denton, Texas respectively. Specializing in Elementary and Early Childhood Education, Reading and Supervision and holds a Certification in Mid-Management.
Rachel’s career spans five decades and includes teaching First Grade, pioneering Kindergarten in DISD, selected as Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America (1975), serving as Program Facilitator & Instructional Specialist for Title I Reading and Mathematics Programs in fifty-seven Schools, Curriculum Writing, Supervising student Teachers and Teacher Certification Candidates, Assistant Principal ship, Principal ship , and Substituting for Teachers & Principals after retiring in 1996 with 37 years of service. She served as an Adjunct Professor at Paul Quinn College where she taught Developmental Reading for two years, from 2004 thru July of 2006. The joy of her retirement career has been through providing tender loving care for her granddaughter, Rianna Rhena Thomas, as a stay at home grand mom for a year and six months. She later served as caregiver for her husband, Deacon Louis McGee until his demise to “Glory” July 10th, 2010. Her community service is widespread throughout the Metroplex. Putting God first. She is a member of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church under the Pastor ship of Pastor George Wynn Pager and where she serves as mother of the Church, President of the Mothers Board & Union, Deaconess Team Leader, Coordinator of the Direct-Path Tutoring Program and Scholarship Watch Care Chair and is an active member of the Adult Women’s Sunday School Class and Pastor’s Aid. Her civic activities include serving as a Dallas Cultural Affairs Commissioner-
(Area 4). Past President and Vice President of American Legion Auxiliary-Unit #802, Past President and now Treasurer of the Dunbar Library at Lancaster-Kiest Branch Library Friends, Cedar Crest Neighborhood and Civic Club Secretary, Former Park South YMCA Board Member Long time American Cancer Society Volunteer, Member of the National Alliance of Black School Educators (DRNABSE) and currently a member of the Retired Arm (SAGE-Seniors Actively Guiding Education). Rachel also received the Dallas NAACP Juanita Craft Holiday Awards. She was recognized for fifty years of community service by her sorority, the Alpha XI Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in 2005 at the Higher Education Level, she is a member of the Association of University Professors – (AAUP). She was honored and received recognition for her wealth of community service by Eta Phi Beta Sorority in April of 2006. Rachel and spouse the Late Deacon Louis McGee of fifty-five years have five children: Rachel Louise McGee Beck, Maria McGee Lockett, Robert Louis McGee, John F. McGee and Merirobyn McGee Thomas; and are blessed with a wealth of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

During her present retired status, while serving in her Church, Mother McGee is an educational consultant & currently an Avon Reprehensive active/leader.
