My Day
By Dr. J. Ester Davis

The City of Dallas was ready for Women’s History Month with a celebration scheduled on City Council Day, March 2, 2022, hosted by the five(5) “ Women of the Dallas City Council”.  Hold my mule!!

I think we take for granted how utterly beautiful the front entrance of our Dallas City Hall really is.  The Luncheon and Commemoration was held in the front room overlooking the Reflection Pool out front. The standing room only affair, started at noon with opening remarks by Deputy City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert.  Invocation was elegantly delivered by Rev. Cynthia Mickens Ross.  The Women’s Chorus of Dallas was as delightful and soulful as ever. The Mayoral Remarks and Proclamation acknowledging National Women’s History Month officially opened the ceremonies for the exciting City of Dallas.

Cheryl Polote Williamson was the absolute appropriate guest speaker.  Her autographed book “The Art of Influence” graced each round table of ten.  Cheryl has amassed numerous accolades such as featured author at the NAACP and Congressional Black Caucus Conference, 2017 Winner of the IALA Literary Trailblazer of the Year Award and executive producer of the short film Illegal Rose. I remember several points to Cheryl poignant message to women, but the most profound was that ‘validation-is-for-parking’.

In ‘Leading on Purpose’ I received The Outstanding Performance in Civic and Community Service Award. The engraved award is a defining smoked beveled glass with an extra stylish edgework.   This award coming from the city I love only makes me grateful for the many arrays of people I work with, the many returned phone calls, which is doubly important. It is a city that cares and is willing to make its courage and progress known.  More expressly, I am reminded of a recent venture; to-wit: ‘missing-black-girls’ which ignited a firestorm wanting to explode. We are planning a second Town Hall Report propelled with ‘live’ survivals.  Look for it!

Congratulations !!!! to all the women honored on March 2, and all the women that make the wheels of purpose, principal, and prosperity turn every day in this strong municipality.

Thank you to the City of Dallas! You rock!!
