KIPP DALLAS‐FORT WORTH ANNOUNCES NEW SUPERINTENDENT
KIPP Dallas-Fort Worth Public Schools (KIPP DFW) announced that Michael Horne will be the new Superintendent.
Michael’s transition comes at a pivotal time for KIPP Dallas-Fort Worth as it seeks to increase high-quality choice options in southern Dallas. Over the next five years, KIPP DFW will open five schools to reach its goal of serving five-thousand students in ten schools in southern Dallas. “Michael’s vision for what is possible in public education is a testament to his leadership and unwavering commitment to service” says Peter Brodsky, KIPP DFW Board Chair. “Under his leadership, KIPP Dallas-Fort Worth will continue to honor the sacred promises we have made to children and families.”
Most recently, Michael served as a Head of Schools with KIPP DFW responsible for overseeing the academic performance of its middle schools. Michael Horne began his career with KIPP Dallas Fort Worth as a Dean of Instruction at KIPP Truth Academy, KIPP DFW’s flagship public charter middle school serving students grades five through eight. In 2012, Michael was appointed the School Leader and was instrumental in developing organization structures designed to support increased high school and college readiness. Before joining the KIPP family, Michael was a kindergarten teacher at Excellence Charter School in Brooklyn, NY and a seventh grade English teacher at Roxbury Preparatory Charter School in Roxbury, MA, where students consistently outperform their district and state peers.
In 2012 Michael was selected to the KIPP Fisher Fellowship program, a highly selective leadership development program designed to prepare leaders to found and lead KIPP schools. Michael was also selected to the Miles Family Fellowship program, a two-year leadership program to support emerging KIPP school leaders. In 2005, Michael won the Amherst College Class of 1954 Commitment to Teaching award. Michael holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Amherst College, a Master in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and a Master of Education Policy and Management from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Michael is also a doctoral candidate at the Harvard Graduate School of Education where his research centers on building new models of urban educational leadership.
