The writer of the Old Testament book of Proverbs chapter 31 poses the question; Who can find a virtuous woman? One who tends to her home with integrity and discipline. She possesses a meek and gentle spirit which in the sight of God is indeed precious. She is humble, not aggressive and her emotions are spirit controlled. She is a godly woman who loves the Lord and teaches her children to do the same.

On the morning of August 31, 2022, LaVoyne Shields Worthey passed from this earthly life to be welcomed into eternity. LaVoyne is the mother of Patrick H. Worthey, Jr. (LaShonda), one of the ministering evangelists of the Greenville Avenue Church of Christ of Richardson, Texas as well as three other children; Steve Worthey of Lubbock, Texas, Darlene Worthey of Nashville, Tennessee, and Craig Worthey (Kendra) of Garland, Texas. She was also the faithful wife of 58 years to her now late husband, Patrick H. Worthey, Sr.

LaVoyne’s life was joyously remembered and celebrated during her homegoing services on Saturday, September 10th, 2022, at the Parkway Drive Church of Christ in Lubbock, Texas. A host of friends, family, members of the community and brothers and sisters in Christ were in attendance. She will be lovingly remembered for her variety of loves, interests, and passions. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, confidant, and friend. She was also a dedicated participant in works which benefitted the East Lubbock community. Additionally, she was a gifted and award-winning seamstress having pursued studies in fashion design at Texas Tech University. Additionally, she had a great love for Thrift Store shopping and later in life developed a love for drawing and sketching portraits of individuals and family.

LaVoyne’s greatest love however was her love for Christ and the church which she made the center of her life and existence. This love was demonstrated, imparted, and continuously encouraged in the lives of her children at an early age, and has resulted in faithfulness in each of them to this day. This love was further demonstrated in a life of service and faithfulness to the church continued into her final days.

In answer to the question posed by the writer of Proverbs 31, The family, friends, brothers in Sisters in Christ and others who knew LaVoyne Worthey can say that she was and will be remembered truly as that virtuous woman.
