Jack Price, the oldest son of John Thomas Price and Letha Davis Price, was born in Dallas, Texas, on May 22, 1932. At 89, he passed away on March 12, 2022, at the Dallas VA Medical Center, surrounded by family after a prolonged illness.

As a small child, Jack spent some of his younger years living in Elkhart, Anderson County, Texas, with his grandparents, Abraham Price and Emma Dickerson playing with his cousins. He attended Henderson Elementary School before returning to Dallas.

Jack accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age. He was baptized at the St. John Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Estelle in Dallas. He later served as a church Trustee.

Jack developed a love for sports early in life that lasted throughout his adulthood.

He graduated from Booker T Washington High School and excelled in football, and received a football scholarship to attend Prairie View A & M University (PVU) in Prairie View, Texas. Jack Price was recognized as “the Best Defensive Player” on PVU’s 1952 Southwest Conference Championship football team. While at PVU, Jack earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and a Master of Arts degree in School Administration.

He served his country in the United States Army as a radar technician, stationed in and around the Washington DC and Maryland area, receiving an honorable discharge.

After serving in the military and graduating from college, Jack distinguished himself as an American History teacher and a coach for the Dallas Independent School District at Booker T. Washington High School and L. G. Pinkston High School. He had the pleasure of coaching football, basketball, and track & field. In addition, he was blessed and honored to lead groups of young men in a school-based chapter of an international non-profit Christian sports ministry known as the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Jack encouraged his students to finish high school and seek higher education. He served as an educator and coach in the DISD for over 41 years.

Jack Price was honored with induction into the Prairie View A & M University Sports Hall of Fame and the Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame housed in the African American Museum, Dallas, Texas.

When Jack was still teaching and coaching students, he would join his weekly prayer partners each morning for a phone conference bible study and Christian fellowship.
