“Giddings helped provide over 65 high school seniors with a Cinderella Moment”
|Representative Helen Giddings (D-Dallas), spent this spring organizing a “Prom Dress Donation Drive” for local area high school senior girls throughout House District 109. Giddings explained, “I believe that prom can be and should be one of the most fun-filled and memorable nights of a young woman’s life. It is a time where young people dress in the best, and they can truly feel confident exiting high school and entering the adult world. Every girl deserves to be a Cinderella on her prom night, regardless of economic background.”
Giddings reached out to all public and charter high schools throughout House District 109, to gauge the need of senior girls who might need some assistance obtaining a prom dress for this spring’s prom. The response from the schools and the community has been very reassuring. Giddings organized a “Shopping Day” at UNT-Dallas on Saturday, April 12, 2014, where the girls who sent in their RSVP were able to shop for a dress, try on a large variety of designs and sizes, and almost all girls found a dress they loved. As of today, over 65 senior girls, from seven different area high schools have received a prom dress.
Representative Giddings thanked the following organizations, retailers, and House District 109 Constituents, for all of their donations and assistance throughout the project: UNT-Dallas, Dress My Way, Kaitlin + Co., DeSoto Dry Cleaners, Kofi Shoppe Salon, Dallas Black Dance Theatre, Employees of AT&T, and Mary Kay, Inc., Uptown Consignment, Glamour RX, Mocca Cosmetics, Chef Carlos of A Different Plate Café & Catering, Kohl’s, the Texas Retailers Association, Fashion Industry Design (FIG), Dr. Sheron Patterson, Dr. Thalia Matherson, Ms. Cheryl Jackson, and Mr. Michael Moore.
