Four dancers and a theater student from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts beat “Powerball odds” to be accepted into the prestigious Juilliard School in New York for the 2014-2015 academic year.
Dancers: Madison Hicks, Alysia Johnson, Mason Manning and MyKal Stromile will be among the 12 women and 12 men who are accepted annually from around the globe. Also accepted was actor Alicia Crowder, who locked up one of just 18 theater openings for the freshman class of 2014. The Juilliard School has an acceptance rate of about 7% which is similar to being accepted to any Ivy League school. The BTWHSPVA students were first notified by phone 3 weeks ago.
