U.S. President Bill Clinton addressed students at the historically black college in south Oak Cliff. Paul QuinnCollege . School leaders called this a historic day. This is the first time that a sitting or former President has visited the college.
An old friend from his days working as a presidential campaign staffer in 1972, U.S. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson, D-Dallas, introduced him.
The former president outlined Hillary Clinton’s goals, including making college affordable, reducing student debt, making America a “clean energy superpower” and modernizing the country’s infrastructure.
He suggested the idea of free college tuition for the “middle class on down” and a tuition payback program that would allow students to pay off loans in 20-plus years at reasonable interest rates in arrangements similar to a home mortgage.
Bill Clinton spoke for more than 30 minutes to a full room, he tried to fire up voters in North Texas to support his wife’s presidential bid.
