A naming ceremony is planned for the Dr. Wright L. Lassiter Jr. Early College High School at El Centro College on Friday, Nov. 15, at 2:30 p.m., at the El Centro College Performance Hall, 801 Main Street. The ceremony will include a welcome from the school principal, Eric Markinson, remarks from various Lassiter Early College students, as well as remarks from the Superintendent of Schools, Mike Miles, and Dr. Lassiter. As president of El Centro College and Chancellor of the Dallas County Community College District, Dr. Lassiter was instrumental in establishing the partnership with the Dallas ISD that created Middle College. School principal Eric Markinson nominated Lassiter for the honor due in part to the important role he played in creating the program at El Centro. Dr. Lassiter will be honored in recognition of a lifetime of service to education.
Students recently interviewed Lassiter and asked him what inspired him to create a high school on the community college campus. The video can be viewed here http://youtu.be/miU1UsPTsF0.
