Dallas Public Library Will Host Acclaimed Authors at Dallas Book Festival April 30

dallas book festival logo smDallas – Pulitzer Prize-winning author Lawrence Wright, military historian Andrew Bacevich and Bryan Stevenson, founder of the Equal Justice Initiative are among more than three dozen noted authors who will be part of the Dallas Book Festival. The free event will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday April 30 at the J Erik Jonsson Central Library, 1515 Young St.

The festival is being organized by the Dallas Public Library and the Friends of the Dallas Public Library, the nonprofit organization that raises financial support and awareness for the Dallas Public Library system and its programs. “The growing scope and prestige of the festival reflects the library’s resurgence,” said Friends of the Dallas Public Library Executive Director Kate Park

North Texas authors and illustrators participating in the festival include Sarah Hepola, Merritt Tierce, AG Ford, Don Tate, Karen Blumenthal, Nancy Churin, Shawna Seed, LA Starks and Virginia McAllester. Local publishing house Deep Vellum’s Lina Merune will also participate among many others.

Principal sponsors include Friends of the Dallas Public Library and The Dallas Morning News. Community partners include the Dallas Museum of Art, Casa de España, Deep Vellum Publishing, Downtown Dallas Inc., The Dock Bookshop, Pan African Connection, The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, The Wild Detectives, WordSpace, Kroger, Amazon, Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau, Urban Spools, Dallas B.R.A.I.N., World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth and Humanities Texas. Further support comes from Clear Channel Outdoor, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts and Southwest Airlines.

Author panels will focus on topics including presidential history, writers’ transition from journalism to books, children’s book illustration, sports writing, and African-American literature. The event will also include artistic and cultural performances, children’s activities and signing sessions with the authors.

“This will be one of the premier literary events in Texas,” said Dallas Public Library Community Engagement Administrator Ronnie Jessie. “We’re very proud to be promoting a love of books with such a range of genres and the diversity that reflects Dallas.”
