CONGRESSWOMAN JOHNSON STATEMENT ON GOV. ABBOTT’S DECISION TO LIFT STATEWIDE MASK MANDATE

Washington, D.C. – Tuesday, March 2, 2021 Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (TX-30), Chair of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, released the following statement in response to Governor Abbott’s decision to lift the statewide mask mandate:

“The decision by Governor Abbott to lift the statewide mask mandate is irresponsible, short-sighted, and in direct opposition to the recommendations of trusted medical professionals,” said Congresswoman Johnson. “Our best chance to get through the COVID-19 pandemic is to listen to the science – and the science supports wearing masks. For the safety of your fellow Texans, please continue to wear a mask in public, social distance, and follow public health guidelines, even after you are vaccinated.”
