DISD-Logo-300-coverDALLAS — The Dallas Independent School District has opened its application period for Magnet and Special Programs, which includes Public School Choice offerings beginning now to Jan. 29.

Magnet schools, such as the School For The Talented And Gifted at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center, accept students based on academic assessments during its selection process.

Transformation schools are campuses that do not have an academic entry requirement, meaning any Dallas ISD student can apply. By comparison, Magnet schools require potential students to meet academic benchmarks.

Both Magnet and Transformation schools have limited seats.

This school year, Dallas ISD is excited to offer two new choice schools for students across the district.  STEAM Middle School at D.A. Hulcy, offers students hands-on learning. Similarly, the opening of the Innovation, Design and Entrepreneurship Academy at James W. Fannin, pairs students with a business mentor and providing an internship opportunity beginning in the 10th grade.

In August, an all-female school will begin preparing students to become trailblazers in STEAM-related fields. At the Solar Preparatory School for Girls at James B. Bonham, they would receive STEAM instruction through blended learning, project-based learning, tech literacy and coding, engineering, robotics, integrated art, and drama.

Applications for both Magnet and Public School Choice offerings can be completed online at www.dallasisd.org/magnet or www.dallasisd.org/choice.
