Accolade Parades

The 33rd Annual Dallas Holiday Parade
Dallas Holiday Parade is held the first Saturday in December every year. We love parades! It is an event the entire family can enjoy together while smiling at the most dressed up fire engine truck, adorning a favorite clown, waving at the beautiful floats and queens.
I rode the train to the parade this year. With so many street closings, it was definitely a good idea. To clarify, I boarded a bus first…that delivered me to the DART Rail Line. This was the Blue Line. From the train to Downtown Dallas. Walked over to the parade route. Simple as 2+2 equals 4. The train has a lot of unexpected wonders. The train allows you to discover a part of Dallas that is foreign and unrecognizable. The train ride is actually the coolest thing you can do for yourself on a “leisure get around day “. With my senior status and half day hour rate. . . the fee was $1.50. WOW!!
The Dallas Holiday Parade, since 1988, has earned it way to syndication status. It started out as the Adolphus and Children’s Hospital Parade. Everything about Dallas has grown since those days. The Dallas Holiday Parade this year was seen on 350 television stations in 159 markets. It ranks now as the city’s largest one day event with admiring visitors across the county lines.
Parades are big fun. Parades are a universal watch affair. They occupy a warm place in our hearts with hundred of volunteers on board. The world’s largest parade in 2012 was the Berlin Pride Parade with 700,000 people lining the streets. The best party parade is Mardi Gras, started in 1699, and the oldest parade in the world. The Houston HEB Holiday Parade welcomes 400,000 guests. America has thirteen (13) Halloween Dog Parades. Then there are the traditional brand parades, Disney Magic Kingdom Parade, the Rose Parade, and Tournament of Roses. Houston and Northern Ireland have the largest ‘Pride Day’ Parade, and of course New York has a ‘Go Topless’ Parade.
One of the largest military parade was held in 1865 at the close of the Civil War. To celebrate victory President Andrew Johnson presided over 200,000 soldiers.
The largest most successful art event in the world is called the “Cow Parade”. This is a creative sensational staging with 80-plus worldwide cities. Over 5,000 cows have been created in all major global cities, i.e., London, Brussels, Boston, Paris, Milan, Rio to name a few.
Many thanks to Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART). You are the greatest!!
