A Little Bit of Faith: Humble Yourself Before God

“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me” (Psalm 51:1). There are times in our lives when we try to fool ourselves. We think that we may have a pure heart before God, but we don’t. God knows the dark places that linger in our hearts. This is why it is important for us to go to Him and confess our sins and ask for forgiveness.

I know all of that is easier said than done. Sometimes, when we pray we may draw a blank. We only want to ask God for our wants and needs. If we do this, we are not coming to Him with an attitude of humility. The kind of society we live in today is filled with social media. We think that everything we say is important, we believe that we have to speak everything that is on our minds, and we tend not to have any respect for others. With this kind of lack of humility, how can we expect to come before God and acknowledge that we are nothing?

This is why the Psalmist said, “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me” (Psalm 51:1). Therefore, we do not want to deceive ourselves. So if you have a difficult time confessing your sins before God, know that He already knows what your sins are. The only thing He wants you to do is trust and believe in Him and be willing to ask for forgiveness.

So the next time you pray, humble yourself before God and before you give Him your long list, ask for forgiveness of your sins. Make sure that you identify the ones you remember. Can you do that this week? I know I can.

Amen? Amen.
