Tribute to Black Cinema Series: Cabin in The Sky Revue

Facebooklinkedin

The South Dallas Concert Choir presents a revue of the 1943 film, Cabin in the Sky, which is based on the 1940 Broadway musical of the same name.  Cabin in the Sky was one of only six films produced by a major studio during the “Race Film” era (1915 – 1955) to feature an all-black cast.

Before production began, the producers and directors, sought input from black leaders.  The script was submitted before production to the NAACP.  The film’s writer said he received a letter congratulating them on the treatment of this black fable, which avoided cliches and racial stereotypes.

In 2020, the film was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”.

We are honored once again to be joined by the angelic voices of the Billie Kerl Roberts Youth Chorale from the Dallas Metroplex Musicians’ Association as our special performing guests.
