THREE ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY DALLAS CHAPTERS SPONSOR “SUNDAY SUPPER” A MLK HOLIDAY SERVICE PROJECT HONORING AREA MILITARY VETERANS

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, IncorporatedThree graduate chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (AKA) in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, Alpha Xi Omega, Omicron Mu Omega and Upsilon Lambda Omega, located in Dallas and DeSoto, Texas respectively, are collaborating to sponsor “Sunday Supper” honoring area military veterans and their spouses. This is an initiative of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in keeping with the spirit of the National MLK Holiday tradition of the day being one for service as the Sorority’s main goal is “service to all mankind”. In addition, to the three graduate chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, a partnership has been formed with the Veterans Resource Center, a nonprofit organization that provides services to veterans including connecting them with other non-profit organizations, employment, housing, educational and VA resources.

The “Sunday Supper” event is Sunday, January 19, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at the Veterans Resource Center, 4900 South Lancaster Road, Dallas, TX 75216. Veterans are being asked to respond to this invitation via the Eventbrite website at: www.eventbrite.com/e/sunday-supper-honoring-

In addition, Veterans should contact Ken Watterson, President, Jeffrey McZeal, Outreach Coordinator or Robert Young, Homeless Veterans Coordinator at the Center or telephone 214-372-8820 for information and assistance with registration for the event.

Several Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority officials,military high-ranking officers and Dallas city officials, including the South Central Regional Director of AKA and Mayor Mike Rawlings, are being invited to participate in honoring the Veterans in attendance. Veterans will be provided a Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of the sorority, dinner and an opportunity to share their military service experiences with a group of sixth to eight grade girls who are participants in the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority national initiative, Emerging Young Leaders, a program focused on leadership development.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is an international service organization that was founded in 1908 on the campus of Howard University. Alpha Kappa Alpha is the oldest Greek-lettered organization established by African-American college educated women. The sorority’s current membership is over 260,000 in graduate and undergraduate chapters in the United States, the U. S. Virgin Islands, the Caribbean, Canada, Japan, Germany, Korea and on the continent of Africa.
