The South Dallas Cultural Center unveils two new exhibitions by two Texas women with international sensibilities. That’s not Atlantic (There’s a disco ball between us) is a collection of new drawings and video projections by Wura-Natasha Ogunji. Re: by Carris Adams is a multi-media exhibit exploring stereotypes in commercials. Both exhibits are on view Saturday, September 13 to October 25, 2014 at the South Dallas Cultural Center, 3400 South Fitzhugh, Dallas 75210. A gallery talk with artist Wura-Natasha Ogunji takes place at 5:00 p.m., Saturday, September 13. The exhibit and artist’s talk are free and open to the public. For more information call 214.939.2787 or visit DallasCulture.org.

Wura-Natasha Ogunji splits her creative time between Austin, Texas and Lagos, Nigeria. Her exhibit That’s not the Atlantic (There’s a disco ball between us) is a collection of new drawings that include an installation with video projection as well as small scale works. The title of the exhibit comes from Ogunji’s installation of drawings on large-sheets of architectural sketch paper. Video projections intermittently illuminate areas of the drawing that have been stitched with fluorescent thread with much of the video originating from footage the artist took with her cell phone while in Lagos.
