The Homegoing of Willie B. Curry
|Willie Bertha Modester was the third child born to Milton Modester and Mariah McCalister on April 26, 1931 in Malakoff, Texas.
Willie B. was educated in the St. Paul area of Malakoff and in the Fort Worth ISD, where she graduated class valedictorian from I.M. Terrell High School in 1949. She furthered her education at Prairie View A & M University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics in 1953, and at Colorado State University earning a Master of Education in Vocation Education in 1961.
Willie B. transitioned from labor to reward on November 2, 2015 after valiantly enduring a two-year illness. She leaves to cherish her life’s memories: a son and daughter-in-law, Kendrick E. and Karen W. Curry of Washington, DC; a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Garland Matthis of Dallas; an aunt, Ida Jackson of Oakland, California; one niece, Ernestine (Jimmie) Davis of San Francisco; one nephew, Bruce Littlejohn of San Francisco; four grandchildren, Keyona Curry, Kendrick Curry II, Ebony (Cecil) Hawkins, and Lyle (Jakema) Matthis; eleven great grandchildren; and a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, friends, students, and AKA sorority sisters.
Willie B. is now welcomed to her heavenly home by: her parents, Milton and Mariah McCalister; a brother, Nathaniel Johnson; a sister, Irene Jones; and a great cloud of other witnesses.
