BALCH SPRINGS, TX—Residents, business leaders, city officials and staff enjoyed an evening of fun Friday night at the Balch Springs Founder’s Day Event. As a celebration of the 60th anniversary of the incorporation of the city, the event commemorated the past and present but also looked to the growing future of new development in Balch Springs.

While the Senior Citizen’s Band provided mood music, guests enjoyed tasty barbeque from Eddie Deen. The singing group “The Sisters” entertained the crowd with a song before special recognition was given to former Mayors, past council members, present council members and our current Mayor.

Linda Pineda gave a humorous skit about life in early Balch Springs and members of the History Committee enlightened the crowd with information about the founding families including the Balchs, Bennetts, and Haughts. A display of historical photos and documents was on loan from the Library Learning Center to inform guests of Balch Springs’ journey up to 2013.

The real entertainment of the evening came when Community Liaison Sam Allen roasted Mayor Carrie Gordon.

The audience was treated to photos from her childhood and young adult years as Mr. Allen regaled us with stories of her accomplishments and escapades. The Mayor then wrapped up the event with a few words about the City’s growth and positive outlook.

Sponsors of this event included Balch Springs Economic Development Corporation Type B, City of Balch Springs HOT Funds, Double D Ranch, Oncor Electric, Perkins Aluminum Smelting, Inc. (Lake June Scrap Metal), Suddenlink, Richard Boyd, Laurel Oaks Funeral Home and Memorial Park, Haymarket Fuel & Beverage LLC, Balch Springs Chamber of Commerce.
