Texas Southern1On November 21, DeSoto High School students filled the auditorium for a special presentation by Texas Southern University President John Rudley. Dr. Rudley, on the TSU Presidential Bus Tour promoting the university, spoke about the value of higher education and the unique programs available at TSU.

Joining the event were DeSoto ISD Superintendent David Harris and TSU Board of Regents Member Curtistene McCowan, the namesake for DeSoto ISD’s McCowan Middle School.

Students were given interest cards as they entered and could turn in the card to receive information from the school about specific programs, financial aid and how to be successful in college. In a surprise announcement, three students who submitted their interest cards were each given $2,000 scholarships to TSU, applicable upon admission and enrollment. In addition, the school received $1,000 as a donation from TSU.
