cheerstoasaferideGet to the parade and party while traveling safely through the day with DART, Uber and MADD. The three organizations are working together during one of DART’s busiest days of the year to encourage responsible travel by leaving the driving to professionals. St. Patrick’s is one of the deadliest holidays on the road for drunk driving, with 276 drunk driving fatalities nationwide from 2009 to 2013.

DART is adding rail service on the main event day, March 14, and Uber is providing $20 off to first time users with promo code RIDESPD to help folks get to and from the rail stations and anywhere else they need to travel. This transportation combination gives parade and partygoers a safe and reliable door-to-door alternative to driving. “Uber is excited to partner with DART and MADD to help curb drinking and driving, and to offer a seamless transportation experience for all,” said Leandre Johns, Uber General Manager.

“MADD wants adults to enjoy celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, while planning ahead for how they’ll get home safely if their plans include alcohol. This partnership between MADD, DART and Uber is an excellent way for people to do just that,” said Jason Derscheid, Executive Director of MADD North Texas.

DART starts early

DART service on the day of the parade, Saturday, March 14, starts early with trains every 10 minutes southbound from Parker Road Station and northbound from West End Station.

Runners and parade goers can take advantage of added trains and capacity with Red and Orange Line trains from Plano operating between 6:28 a.m. to 7:08 p.m. to either Mockingbird or Lovers Lane stations for the Dash Down Greenville 5K or the St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival on Greenville Avenue.

Customers from Carrollton, Farmers Branch and Dallas can ride the Green Line and transfer to either the Orange or Red Line in downtown Dallas where additional trains will operate from       8 a.m. to 6:54 p.m. Passengers riding the TRE transfer to the Orange or special event Red Line trains at Victory Station.

A Local Day Pass is the best value at only $5 for bus or light-rail and can be purchased by cash or credit card at ticket vending machines located at all DART stations. Customers can buy a day pass in advance by using the GoPass℠ mobile ticketing application for Android and Apple smartphones available free through Google Play or the App Store.

DART bus routes detoured

Passengers who normally use Routes 502 and 583 at Lovers Lane Station will be unable to do so for much of the day Saturday. Both routes will be detoured from Lovers Lane to serve Mockingbird Station until approximately 6 p.m. or whenever Greenville is re-opened to traffic. Route 502 will continue to serve Park Lane Station. Red and Orange Line trains to Lovers Lane will not be interrupted during the parade.

All customers traveling in the area are encouraged to allow extra time due to the large crowds expected which may also include “zombies” as Walker Stalker Con invades Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas on Saturday and Sunday, March 14 and 15. Additional details concerning service adjustments for March 14 can be found at DART.org or by calling DART Customer Information at 214-979-1111.
