Project Title: The Awakening Duration of fundraising campaign: June 4th – June 18th It’s the theatrical stage show that many are calling “life changing”. Originally presented in the parking lot of a local book store in the summer of 2012, The Awakening has slowly grown into a sophisticated piece of work that has now been seen by thousands within theaters across the Dallas metroplex. Audiences have raved about the spectacular beauty and powerful message of this ground breaking production.

The Awakening has been praised for its unique ability to dazzle and entertain while also educating the viewer and offering solutions to many of the issues that continue to plague the Black community.

Synopsis

A recent comedy special hosted by a notorious Black stand-up comedian sends a famous diva over the edge. In a comedy special full of outlandish generalizations and stereotypes regarding Black women, the comedian uses her beauty as a subject to ridicule for his act. From her dark skin complexion to her choice of wearing kinky hair as a staple of her crowns, Vanity Black listens on as she and Black women as a whole are disgraced and ripped apart before the world as millions tune in to join in his laughter.

Turning to her longtime friend, designer turned writer, Antonio Wingfield, Vanity Black is in desperate need of a venting session or someone’s head is about to roll. Upon her visit, The Diva is presented with a script and the opportunity to star in his new stage show, The Awakening. It will become an encounter of which she will never forget as she is swept away on a fantastical journey of beauty, self-reflection, and redemption that will change her life, dreams, and perceptions forever.

The creators of The Awakening are now seeking to spread its inspiring message to other cities, states, and countries by capturing the magic and beauty of this production on DVD.
