Winfred Parnell MD Chairman of Parkland Board of Managers-Congresswoman Eddie Bernice JohnsonDALLAS –Parkland Foundation staff hosted a dedication reception on Friday, May 27 to celebrate the naming of The Promenade Park and Women & Infants Specialty Health (WISH) Plaza at Parkland for Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson of Dallas. The event was attended by donors to the ‘I Stand for Parkland’ campaign, friends and supporters of Congresswoman Johnson and Parkland staff.

The Promenade Park comprises the vast front lawn of the new Parkland campus that stretches from Medical District Drive to the entrance of the new WISH clinic. The plaza in front of the clinic is a place of quiet reflection, with a gentle fountain and plantings of fragrant herbs, grasses and shade trees. A generous gift to the Parkland Foundation by Mrs. Eugene McDermott provided support for the creation of the park and plaza.

“Prioritizing green space and putting the ‘park’ back into Parkland have been critical components of the design for our new hospital,” said Fred Cerise, MD, MPH, President and CEO of Parkland. “All visitors to the new hospital, and especially new mothers, their infants and families, will enjoy The Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson WISH Plaza and Promenade for generations to come.”

As a non-practicing registered nurse and lifelong advocate for women and children throughout her clinical and public service career, Congresswoman Johnson said, “I am deeply honored by this recognition that reflects my passion for the health and well-being of our community, especially mothers and children. This beautiful park and plaza provide an inspirational outdoor space for patients, visitors and staff at Parkland to experience nature’s healing influence.”

The new WISH Clinic opened on Aug. 24, 2015, and offers specialty services including Maternal/Fetal Medicine Clinic, Gynecology Specialty Clinic, OB/Gyn Sonography & Genetics, Gynecology/Oncology Infusion, Newborn Follow Up and Lactation Support, as well as the Parkland Urgent Care Center.
