CLEOPHAS R STEEL JRIn honor of the Late Justice of the Peace Judge and Constable Cleophas R. Steele, Jr. The Dallas County commissioners Court and Staff ; Commissioner John Wiley Price, Commissioner Dr. Elba Garcia, Commissioner Dr. Theresa Daniel,  Commissioner Mike Cantrell and Judge Clay Jenkins held the Official Naming Ceremony of the CLEOPHAS R. STEELE JR. COURTHOUSE on  Wednesday, November 18 2015 10:00 am at  414 South R.L. Thornton Frwy Dallas, TX 75203.

Honorable Steele was one of the first African-Americans to graduate from Southern Methodist University School of Law.  He was also one of the first attorneys to sign a petition supporting the desegregation of the Dallas Independent School District in the early 1970s.

A longtime lawyer, Steele was a justice of the peace for 31 years until his 2006 retirement. He was appointed constable of Precinct 1 in 2012.
