Do you need a job? Where are all of these jobs being created? Who is leading the charge? The Department of Labor concentrates on the number of jobs posted nationally, but not necessarily the places and who has them.

The growth of women of color as business owners is a long term trend, but now the spotlight sits squarely on the African American women in business. This segment of the market has had remarkable growth for a variety of reasons. But whatever the circumstance the impact has translated into millions of jobs. The most important job is being able to hire your own children thus giving them a jump start to courage and alternatives.

The Native Hawaiian Islander women owned businesses has grown about 216%. The Latino women owner has a growth pattern of 180%. The Asian American and Alaska Native women business owners has stretched over the mark to 108%. The African American women business owners has a respectable growth of 258%. African American women business owners are the majority owners to one third (that’s 1/3) of all women owned firms in the nation. Some companies owned by women are untraditional and unthinkable in another time.

Let’s talk about untraditional. Mary Lindsey, is a Chicago comedy club owner in the Bronzenville neighborhood. The club is almost ten(10)years old and has a reputation of attracting seasoned and novice comedy stars to the stage. Unthinkable, but thinkable in our time… are security firms
owned by women. Private detectors who are bold and beautiful. Nannies by the thousands. Personal chefs.

Oh, it’s a wonderful world. And only in America.
