The President and the Pope ushered in the true meaning of Christmas last week with the announcement of new relations with Cuba.  Finally, some real essence of ‘peace on earth’.  The first African American President of the United States and the first Latin Pope in 2,000 years.  Writers will bombard the history books with the affairs of this poignant moment and I assure you history will share many accountings of its possibilities.

Television has the most influence and control over our mindset, but if you have been paying attention lately, there is more cultural and peaceful events on your favorite channel.  There are more partnerships with unlikely bedfellows, themes of peace , nonviolence and family.  The “Ester Davis Signature Show” has a loyal audience of African American mothers & fathers that watch us irregardless of the time we are on television.  We are about family, education and information.  The real reason “Blue Bloods” (CBS) ratings is so high is because in each episode there is a family gathering at the dinner table.  The scene is more important than the conversation, i.e., meaning what we  see is more etched in your subconscious than what is being discussed at the dinner table.  The saddest  commentary  is it takes a “television show”  to demonstrate what we know is the right thing to do.

The Peace on Earth Film Festival  celebrates and supports independent filmmakers and their work around the world.  The aim is to contribute to a culture of peace through international cinema, dialogue and programming highlights. The aim is high on family.   Quite frankly, the world has grown tired of violence on television and the movies.  We have blown up everything we can.  We have taped every murder imaginable and had every explosion ‘down-the-same-mountain’.

Can we have a little reshaping of the minds, attitudes, encouragement and wholesome practices?

Contrary to popular belief, they do indeed exist.  Can we please focus on family?

Merry Christmas.  Peace on earth.  Peace within. . .  to all.
