Norman Lynn SmithNorma Lynn Smith passed away peacefully December 2, 2014 in Dallas, Texas. She was known as Jeannie to her classmates in Terrell, TX. A beloved wife, mother, devoted sister and friend.

Norma never tired of giving to her friends, church, and community. Through her strength, courage and unrelenting optimism she was a champion for education, a role model and inspiration to many.

She was born on January 22 1939 in Dallas, Texas to Benjamin and Helen Washington. She was number 7 of 13 children to grow up in Terrell, TX. Norma graduated from Burnett H.S. in 1958. She earned a scholarship and graduated with her B.S. degree in Education from Paul Quinn College (Waco) and M.S. in Education from Prairie View A&M University. Norma was a novice photographer in her free time, a passion that she passed on to her son Walter. She also loved macramé, needle point, and reading

In 1963she married Walter E. Smith III. They had 2 sons Eric Lynn Smith and Walter E. Smith, IV.

Norma had a 36 year career in Dallas ISD, where she was and educator of the Arts and retiring as a home-bound teacher providing an education for students unable to attend school because of health reasons. She was and active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,

Incorporated for 38 years. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Dallas, Texas.

Norma is survived by her son Walter and daughter-in-law Zaincorie M. Smith, her 5 sisters Mae Washington, Nadine Hamilton, Audrey Henderson, Helen Peterson and Pasty Washington, a host of nieces and nephews and many other extended family members and friends.
