Family and friends celebrated Mrs. Gertrude Coleman’s 100th birthday at the Bethel Cayuga Volunteer Fire Department and Community Center on Saturday, July 8, 2023.

It was a very special afternoon celebrating Mrs. Gertrude. The community center was filled with her family and friends, who truly loved her. The celebration included a special luncheon with cake and plenty of music.

Mr. Rudy Flores, Sheriff of Anderson County, paid a surprise visit. He presented Mrs. Coleman with a signed certificate to honor her milestone birthday! The certificate encouraged her to “live life large,” “celebrate her accomplishments,” and “enjoy every moment. ”

According to one of her daughters, Gertrude Moore was born in Yard, Texas, Anderson County, to Jimmie and Mattie Moore on July 10, 1923. Mrs. Coleman and her late husband, R.V. Coleman, raised 20 children and two grandchildren. She has 50 grandchildren, 125 great-grandchildren, 77 great-great-grandchildren, and one with three “greats” attached. As you can imagine, there is quite a crew at family gatherings!

Mrs.Gertrude enjoyed attending church, fishing, quilting, and cooking in her earlier years. She now enjoys attending church,  taking car rides, spending time with her family, and reading!

Life does not drag on  Mrs. Gertrude. She is a strong, independent woman. She is in good health and amazingly still able to walk without assistance. She gets up every day and puts her makeup on. You won’t find her without her makeup on, hair, and nails done. She is a positive person who doesn’t complain. A common phrase of hers is “keep living .”She is so sweet, inspiring and gives us all hope for the future.

She has had a good life and is thankful. She attributes her longevity to the goodness of God, family, and friends.

Happy Birthday, Mrs. Gertrude! All your family and friends love you!
