REFLECTIONS ON THE LIFE OF HATTIE KELLY

Minister Hattie Katherine Kelly was born and raised in Josephine, Texas. She was the daughter of Isaiah & Luverter Clark and the thirteenth child of fifteen siblings. Hattie was joined in Holy Matrimony to Paul M. on October 27, 1958 to this union five children were born James, Paul, Scott, Vickie, and Sandra.

In 1971 she attended Cosmetology School and went on to be a Cosmetology Instructor. She worked as a Cosmetologist until a serious illness caused her to give up that career. She is featured in ”Who’s Who Among American Business Women, and was invited to the State Capitol for tea with then Governor Ann Richards and was the first owned and operated Black business in Farmersville.

Min. Kelly became very involved in her community; she started the Farmersville NAACP. She worked with the Farmersville Human Relations Committee, and she served several years ·with The North Texas Job Corps Human Relations Committee. She was member of the National Hook-up of Black Women, Inc. (Advocates for Women and Their Families). Min. Kelly won numerous awards for her dedication and service to her community and surrounding areas. She was the current President of the Texas Publishers Association, which consists of 28 newspapers across the State of Texas and was President and CEO of H.K. Ministries. In 1995 God gave Min. Kelly a new career, The Power Pages News, a newspaper that gives glory and honor to God, and a profession that has brought great joy into her life and the lives of many others.

Min. Kelly accepted her call into the ministry in 2001; she attended Servant Hood Ministries where she was Ordained, a licensed minister of the gospel.

Minister Kelly served at the McKinney First Baptist Church in McKinney, Texas under the leadership of Pastor Lee A. Edwards before d returning home to the Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Farmersville under the leadership of Pastor Paul R. Mack Sr.

Minister Kelly is preceded in death by: Parents, Isaiah & Luverter Clark; husband, Paul M. and James Matthews; her oldest son; five brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by: Sons, Paul D. (Shnell) and Scott, daughters; Vickie and Sandra  all  of Farmersville, Texas;  two  brothers,   Rev. William  Clark (Georgia) and James  Clark,  three  sisters;  Inez  Davis,  Bessie Shaw and Mary Perkins; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and  friends.
