Eastfield College officers receive Award for Valor

Eastfield OfficersMESQUITE, TEXAS — Eastfield College police officer Elias Reymundo and former Sergeant Melissa Jacobs (now a lieutenant with the Richland College Police Department) were awarded the 2014 Texas Law Enforcement Achievement Award for Valor during a ceremony at the State Capitol in Austin on June 12.

Both officers were injured in the line of duty while pursuing a trespasser wielding a knife on the Eastfield College campus on Nov. 3. 2014. The attacker was later apprehended by the Mesquite Police Department.  Joining Reymundo and Jacobs at the ceremony was Eastfield College Police Chief Michael Horak. (Photo attached)

Each year, the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement presents law enforcement achievement awards for professional achievement, public service and valor.  Officers are nominated because they exceed the normal expectations of job performance. Seventeen officers from across the state received awards of valor for 2014.
