> on June 27, 2012 in Los Angeles, California.MESQUITE, Texas — Eastfield College is offering a seven-week Citizenship Preparation Program for legal, permanent residents who are interested in applying for U.S. citizenship. The citizenship classes at the college’s main campus in Mesquite will be held on seven Fridays, from 6-9 p.m., starting October 30. Classes at the Pleasant Grove Campus will be held on seven Saturdays, from 9 a.m. until noon, starting October 31. Cost of the program is $75.

“We’ve had a lot of interest from the community about offering classes like this,” said Dora Pacheco, Community Education Coordinator of Workforce, Corporate and Continuing Education at Eastfield College. “This is more than just a drop-in class. This is a full curriculum. When they finish this program, they will be fully prepared to take their citizenship test and complete the interview process.”

Citizenship classes will focus on improving English speaking, listening, reading and writing skills and they will also teach civics, organizational skills, time management, trust building, and working with other cultures. Students will receive assistance in preparing for the citizenship test and completing the N400 form for the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), and they will also participate in mock interviews.

To register for the classes, visit http://www.eastfieldcollege.edu/Ced/Registration.asp online or stop by Building C, Room 119 on the main campus. For more information about the Citizenship Preparation Program, call Dora Pacheco at 972-860-7346 or email her at dorapacheco@dcccd.edu.
