Don’t be a Stumbling Block

Do you have a friend or family member who knows you are having a difficult time letting go of a situation or a particular thing and yet they keep trying to get you to do it anyway. Being around that person has become a stumbling block. Every time you’re with them, you find yourself back at doing something you promised yourself you would and should not do again.  Yet, the Bible speaks specifically on that type of situation. It says in the book of Romans, “Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother’s way” (Romans 14:13).

The way we live can help or hinder someone’s progress. God wants to use each and every one of us who know and believe in Him in a positive way that can help another person to grow and see Him (Christ) more clearly. But if we are constantly a hindrance to another person’s growth, then it is difficult for anyone to truly get a glimpse of Christ working, moving, and living in us. Live in the light.

The apostle Paul says that we are to “…put no stumbling block in anyone’s path” (2 Corinthians 6:3). If you are hindering someone, you need to rethink what you are doing and stop. Let’s try to help our Christian brothers and sisters to live a more victorious life in Christ. They should not be able to point to us and blame us for falling back into their old habits or sins. They should see us as a way they desire to grow and move toward Christ.

Therefore, allow Christ to be your guide and you will be able to help your fellow brother or sister, in Christ, to get a better glimpse of Jesus’ love in action through you. Avoid being a stumbling block. Allow your actions to reflect more of Christ’s love. Amen? Amen.
