Dr Joe May chancellor DCCCDDr. Joe May, chancellor of the Dallas County Community College District, celebrated the opening of the State Fair of Texas by walking in the Friday kick-off parade (Sept. 25) with students, college mascots and employees from DCCCD, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary. DCCCD also is staffing an education information booth during the fair’s annual Mundo Latino exhibit, which is housed inside the former Women’s Museum. This year’s Mundo Latino exhibit is titled “Guitarras de Mexico.” Sharing the history of guitars, guitar makers and guitarists, the showcase has a special focus on instruments made in Paracho, Michoacán – also known as the “Guitar Capital of Mexico.” DCCCD was invited to partner with Mundo Latino to show the importance of higher education to the Hispanic community. More than 100 volunteers from the DCCCD system will staff the booth on Oct. 2 and 3 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Volunteers also worked the weekend of Sept. 25-27.)
