His campaign included television and Advertising in the Black Media. Both ran through May 5 — during early voting and ahead of the May 9 election.

Mike Rawlings greatest margins were in the southern districts.  “I am grateful for the widespread support of Dallas voters in neighborhoods across the city,” Rawlings said Tuesday. “But this election was not about me.

“These results show that the vast majority of our most engaged citizens believe that their city is on the right path and that we are prioritizing the right issues.”

“While people voted for a name of Mike Rawlings on the ballot, they were not voting for me as an individual. I really believe they were voting for a vision for Dallas. I believe this city believes in itself like its never believed in itself before,” Rawlings said.

Rawlings was first elected to the mayor’s office in 2011 after defeating former Dallas Chief of Police David Kunkle when incumbent Tom Leppert decided not to run for reelection.

In Dallas, candidates in four council races didn’t get the 50 percent needed to win. They will be decided in runoff elections June 13.
