DISD-Logo-300The Dallas Independent School District has received a top award for its financial reporting for the 2013 fiscal year, earning the Certificate of Excellence from the Association of School Business Officials International.

The award, the only of its type specifically designed for school district financial reporting, is based on Dallas ISD’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, or CAFR, for that year. The CAFR is important because it provides a clear analysis of how well the district handles, controls and protects its financial resources.

“Dallas ISD is pleased to receive this honor because it is the result of the hard work and emphasis we place on protecting resources provided by our community,” said Mike Miles, Dallas ISD superintendent. “As part of Destination 2020, we are working to strengthen our systems and increase transparency, and this award proves it.”

To receive the award, a school district must satisfy specific guidelines for effective, high-quality financial reporting recognized by school business officials. The honor comes just weeks after Moody’s Investors Service has assigned Dallas ISD a bond rating of Aa1 for the second year in a row. Since 2012, Dallas ISD has not received a rating lower than an Aa2.
