Brandon Carr-CowboysDallas Cowboys cornerback Brandon Carr is scheduled to be one of the most expensive cornerbacks in the league in 2016 from a salary cap standpoint.

Because of his contract, Carr was always viewed as a potential cap casualty after two fairly mediocre seasons in Dallas. According to Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, the Cowboys intend to release Carr barring an agreement on a a pay cut being reached.

Carr hasn’t had an interception in two years despite starting in all 32 games for Dallas over that span. While his first two seasons in Dallas were promising with six interceptions total and double-digit passes defended in each season, Carr hasn’t performed at the same level since.

Carr’s cap cost is set to be $13.8 million in 2016 for Dallas. Only Darrelle Revis,Richard Sherman and the freshly franchised Josh Norman would account for more salary cap dollars next season. Releasing Carr would free up cap space for the Cowboys. Just how much space depends on if he is a pre- or post-June 1 release.
